FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — The Northern Arizona women's soccer team fell to Weber State Friday night in Lumberjack Stadium 2-1. Junior
Mei-Te Coco, with an assist from senior
Adrian Nixt, gave the Lumberjacks an early 1-0 lead before Weber State tied it up in the first half and took the lead in the second.
"They played their hearts out and it wasn't for a lack of effort," Head Coach
Andre Luciano said. "Our match ups were good and I thought they did what we asked them to do."
Despite the result, Northern Arizona outshot the Wildcats recording 15 attempts, four on goal compared to Weber State's 10 attempts, eight on goal.
"This season we've been creating a lot of chances, but we haven't been able to capitalize on any of them," said Luciano.
The first goal came in the 22
nd minute to give the Lumberjacks the lead; however, Weber State responded less than five minutes later to tie it up again with a blast nearly 30 yards out. The Wildcats' game-winning goal came with less than 10 minutes left in regulation when Weber State's lead scorer Morgan Quarnberg recorded her fifth goal of the season right outside of the six-yard box.
Northern Arizona went into the weekend 8-7 overall stacked right in the middle of the pack, in terms of Big Sky standings. The Lumberjacks remain in the middle of the pack, but have fallen to 3-4 in conference action tied with Southern Utah.
Nixt recorded a season-high in shots with six attempts against the Wildcats. Defensively, true freshman
Taryn Benham recorded a career-high game with six saves, after starting and playing the entirety of the last three games.
The Lumberjacks will return to the field Sunday to host the Idaho State Bengals at noon. The Bengals are currently 3-11 overall and 2-4 in the Big Sky.
