Trouard and Malaspina Sweep Big Sky Athlete of the Week Honors
OGDEN, Utah - Northern Arizona University's Andy Trouard and Mikayla Malaspina swept the Big Sky's Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors after an outstanding showing by both teams at prestigious meets over the weekend, per the conference's release on Tuesday.

Trouard helped lead the men to a dominating victory in the University of Wisconsin's Nuttycombe Invitational, as the Lumberjacks repeated as meet champions.

The senior placed third at the event with a time of 23:40.9 in the 8K race.

As a unit, NAU had three runners finish in the top five of the event. All five scoring athletes came across the line as the Top 21 runners at the meet. The Lumberjacks finished with 50 points, recording the lowest team point total at Nuttycombe since 2010.

Malaspina help the women's squad to a tenth-place performance at The Pre-Nationals, hosted by the University of Louisville at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park.

The junior set a new personal record by 40 seconds as she finished in 27th with a time of 20:27.7 for the 6K course.

Overall, the Lumberjacks placed three runners in the Top 83 of the meet in a strong performance against one of the top fields in the sport this season. With the result, the team jumped three spots to No. 5 in the Mountain Region, the highest mark received since 2015.

It is the second time this year that NAU has swept the conference honors. Trouard and Malaspina join Paige Gilchrist, Matt Baxter and Peter Lomong as others who have won the award this season.

Both squads will be back in action with the running of the Arizona State Invitational on Friday, Oct. 20. Both teams are also looking forward to defending their Big Sky Championships, with the conference meet set for Saturday, Oct. 28 in Ogden, Utah.
