NAU Women's Soccer To Host Southern Utah For Senior Night

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Seven seniors will be honored in their final home game of the season Friday, Oct. 20 against Southern Utah as the Northern Arizona women's soccer team fights for a spot in the conference tournament.

Chantal Deroos make up this year's senior class for a combined 37 goals, 19 assists, 2 championship game appearances and one conference title.
"We've stressed all season long that playing well at home was critical and that having points at home would be really important factor in getting into the top six of the conference tournament," Head Coach
Andre Luciano said.
Northern Arizona is currently 9-8 overall and 4-4 in the Big Sky, sitting at fifth place in the conference standings.
"This is going to be the toughest game of the year for us. Senior night is always tough on a team, because there are always so many emotions that are involved," said Luciano. "I don't look at it as the end of their careers, because the season is not over yet."
The Lumberjacks will host the Southern Utah Thunderbirds in their final home game of the season at Lumberjack Stadium at 7 p.m. The Thunderbirds are 4-12 overall and 3-5 in the Big Sky, currently in seventh in the conference standings.
In addition to senior night, the Lumberjacks' game will also be Native American appreciation night and faculty appreciation night. The first 150 fans will receive a free NAU-branded tumbler. The game will be live streamed on Pluto TV Channel 239.
2017 Notables
- As of Oct. 17, Senior Adrian Nixt was named Offensive Big Sky Player of the Week after scoring a hat-trick against Idaho State (Oct. 15).
- As of Oct. 3, Freshman Taryn Benham was named Defensive Big Sky Player of the Week
- Senior goalkeeper Meghan Dickmann recorded a career-high 10 saves against UNLV at home Sept. 8.
- As of Sept. 6, Junior Madeline Waszak was the first Lumberjack this season named Offensive Big Sky Player of the Week.
- Nixt is coming back from a standout year as she once again made her way into the NAU record books, she is currently fourth in program history in game-winning goals (10) and overall points (62) and sixth in program history in goals (24) and assists (14).

The Thunderbirds are coming off a 0-2 weekend against Northern Colorado and North Dakota conceding three goals in both games. Southern Utah is currently sitting right at the edge of the conference standings at seventh place. The Lumberjacks will go into the weekend 12-1-2 against the Thunderbirds winning 3-0 the last time they played in Lumberjack Stadium.
Southern Utah is led by junior Makenzie Lawrence, a Kaysville, Utah native, who has scored five goals for the Thunderbirds, two game-winners. She is the only athlete on their 27-women roster who has hit double digits in points with 10. Overall, the Thunderbirds have scored 16 goals and had 153 shot attempts, 67 on goal. Southern Utah is led by Head Coach Fred Thompson.
Looking Ahead
Northern Arizona will compete in their final game of the regular season against Sacramento State. The Lumberjacks will face the Hornets Friday, Oct. 27 at 3:30 p.m.
A Look at the Senior Class
#1 Meghan Dickmann
Dickmann came to NAU from San Clemente, Calif. as a goalkeeper for the Lumberjacks. In more than 3000 minutes, she has recorded 174 saves and 10 shutouts, with a career-high 13 saves against Idaho in 2016. The senior has played in 45 games with 40 starts and is currently seventh in program history in saves, fewest goals against and shutouts. Dickmann is a two-time Golden Eagle Recipient in 2015 and 2016 and was named to the Big Sky All-Tournament team in 2016. She will graduate this May with a Bachelor's degree in Biology and a minor in Chemistry.
#3 Riley Porter
Porter, a Plain City, Utah native, has left her mark as a defender for the blue and gold. In more than 3000 minutes played and 50 games, the senior has recorded 39 starts, scoring four goals and an assist. She is a two-time Golden Eagle recipient in 2015 and 2016 and was also named to the 2016 Big Sky All-Tournament team. Riley will graduate this May with a Bachelor's degree in Social Work and minor in Psychology.
#13 Anna Goebel
Goebel is a Phoenix, Ariz. native who has played in 59 games so far with nine career starts. The senior forward has scored 6 goals and recorded 2 assists for the Lumberjacks. Three of her goals were in the 2016 Big Sky Tournament. Goebel is a 2016 Golden Eagle Recipient and was named to the 2016 Big Sky All-Tournament Team. She will graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Visual Communications this upcoming May.
#17 Emma Bushell
Bushell first came to NAU from Eden, Utah. In her time here at NAU, the senior forward has played in a handful of games after suffering from injury most of her career. Bushell is a two-time Golden Eagle Recipient in both 2015 and 2016. She will graduate this May with a Bachelor's degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management and a minor in Business.
#19 Adrian Nixt
Nixt, a Portland, Ore. native, will have left her mark on the Lumberjack program as one of the top forwards. Nixt has played in 76 games, starting in 61. She is currently fourth in program history with 10 game-winning goals and 62 overall points and sixth in program history with 24 goals and 14 assists. She is a 2015 Golden Eagle Recipient and was named All-Big Sky Honorable Mention in 2014 and All-Big Sky First Team in 2016. She will graduate in May with a Bachelor's in Hotel and Restaurant Management.
#26 Amber Measley
Measley first came to NAU from Tucson, Ariz. The senior defender has played in 29 games, starting in 10 of them. In addition, Measley has recorded one assist in 2015 against Weber State to give NAU its first of two goals for that win. She is a two-time Golden Eagle Recipient in 2015 and 2016. She will graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Visual Communications with a minor in Business this upcoming May.
#29 Chantal Deroos
Deroos, a Boulder, Colo. native has played in 54 games, recording over 1000 minutes for the Lumberjacks. The senior has played both in the midfield and forward positions scoring three goals and recording one assist. Deroos is a two-time Golden Eagle Recipient in 2015 and 2016. She will graduate in May with a Bachelor's degree in Bio-medicine and a minor in Chemistry.
