NAU Golf Prepares for Ron Moore Intercollegiate this Weekend
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - The Northern Arizona University women's golf team is set to compete in the Ron Moore Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Denver at the Highlands Ranch Golf Club, Friday, Oct. 6 through Sunday, Oct. 8.

It is the third team tournament of the fall for NAU. The Lumberjacks finished 12th at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic on Sept. 19 and followed it with a 14th place showing at the University of Gonzaga's Coeur D'Alene Resort Intercollegiate on Sept. 27.

"We are excited to be playing in another great tournament," Head Coach Brad Bedortha said. "We haven't played in this event in three years. They have a great course and the field of team competing that was put together is really good."

Northern Arizona will be led by Sofia Anokhina in the No. 1 spot. Kaitlyn Saum will be slotted at No. 2 while Sierra Bezdicek will compete out of the No. 3 spot. Loren Skibba (No. 4) and Emma Reyes (No. 5) will round out NAU's top five competitors.

"Overall, I would really like to see us improve upon our performances, we need to be able to execute shots when needed," Bedortha concluded. "It should be a great experience and we are looking forward to seeing the girls compete again."

This weekend's course is a par 72 and plays at 6,450 yards, which is the longest course NAU has played in so far this season. The event is brand new to the Northern Arizona schedule this year and is the first time playing in the tournament since a seventh-place showing back in the Fall of 2014. Senior Bezdicek is the only current member of the team to play the course in an NAU uniform.

The Lumberjacks will be going against teams from Cal Poly, Washington State, Wyoming, South Dakota State, Tulsa, Oregon State, New Mexico, Pepperdine, Denver, San Jose State, Texas-San Antonio and Northern Colorado. Pepperdine is the tournament's defending champion after finishing with a team score of 854 last year.

Friday's opening round is set to tee off at 8 a.m. MST. Saturday's second round will begin at 9 a.m. MST and Sunday will be a shotgun start with the start time still to be determined.
