Golf Finishes First Day of Ron Moore Intercollegiate
HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. - The Northern Arizona University women's golf team competed in the opening round of the University of Denver's Ron Moore Intercollegiate at the Highlands Ranch Golf Club on Friday.

The Lumberjacks found themselves in a tie for 11th overall after the first round, as the team finished the day 13-over (301). It is the first time that NAU has competed in the tournament since a seventh-place finish back in 2014.

Northern Arizona was led by an even-round of 72 from Sofia Anokhina, who found herself tied for 19th after one day of competition. The junior standout had three birdies on the day.

Kaitlyn Saum was second for the Lumberjacks, shooting a three-over 75 (tied for 46th). Sierra Bezdicek was right behind her with a four-over, 76 performance (T-53rd) and led the Lumberjack squad with four birdies.

Emma Reyes finished fourth individually for NAU with a six-over 78 (T-63rd). Loren Skibba rounded things out with a 10-over 82 (T-76).

New Mexico and Denver finished the opening day of the tournament atop the leaderboard with a team score of five-under. The University of Texas at San Antonio and Oregon State tied for third at two-under. Washington State and Northern Colorado each finished with a one-over, which put them in a tie for fifth.

The Lumberjacks will tee off the second day of the tournament on Saturday morning, starting at 9 a.m. MST.
