Anokhina and Saum Shoot 1-Unders as Golf Improves to 11th to Conclude Ron Moore Intercollegiate

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. - The Northern Arizona University women's golf team improved 17 strokes from the round before, highlighted by one-under performances from
Sofia Anokhina and
Kaitlyn Saum to conclude the final round of the University of Denver's Ron Moore Intercollegiate at the Highlands Ranch Golf Club on Sunday.
The Lumberjacks improved two spots to 11th place overall after the team finished the day with their best team round of the season with a two-over showing (290 strokes).
"I am really proud of the team today," Head Coach
Brad Bedortha said. "We had a tough first two days but they bounced back and showed their resilience today. They competed very well."
Anokhina and Saum each shot 71 to lead the NAU squad. With the final-round performance, Anokhina finished in a tie for 19th individually with a tournament total of one-over. She was consistent all weekend, not shooting over a 74 in any round.
With her final day performance, Saum improved to a tie for 43rd. She had three birdies on the day, and also had an incredible eagle on the par four, hole 15.
Sierra Bezdicek finished the day with a three-over 75 which put her in a tie for 51st with a three round total of eight-over.
Emma Reyes shot her best round of the season on Sunday, finishing with a one-over, 73.
Loren Skibba rounded things out with a six-over 78. Her round was also a season-best that included three birdies and an eagle.
Host University of Denver shot a tournament record final-round score of 272 to win the competition at 15-under. Oregon State finished in second with a six-under performance while The University of Texas at San Antonio came in third at five-under. Washington State (two-under) and New Mexico (one-under) made up the top five.
The Lumberjacks will return to the links with the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, hosted by UNLV, Oct. 22-24. It will be the last tournment of NAU's fall season.
