FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Former Northern Arizona diver Alexa Geiger was one of 26 graduating seniors to receive the prestigious Gold Axe Award during a banquet Tuesday night at the Ashurst Auditorium.
The NAU Gold Axe Award dates back to 1933 and is presented each semester to honor graduating seniors for their achievements and service. It is a tribute to outstanding academic performance, leadership and service to the community. Geiger is the 51st honoree from the NAU Athletics Department since 2004.
Geiger will complete her degree in special and elementary education with a cumulative grade point average of 3.9. A four-time Golden Eagle Scholar-Athlete award recipient and WAC All-Academic selection, Geiger maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA for six consecutive semesters during her diving career. She also was a four-time AD Honor Roll awardee and three-time Honorable Mention Scholar All-American by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America.
The Fullerton, Calif. native was an integral member of four consecutive Western Athletic Conference championships before she completed her eligibility last spring. She won three individual conference titles and was named the WAC Diver of the Year in 2016. She concluded her career with the fourth-best 1-meter score (310.65) in program history.
Away from the pool and the classroom, Geiger was active, serving as the president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee in addition to serving as a leader in NAU's FCA. She completed over 150 volunteer hours in local elementary schools within Flagstaff, all of which earned her NAU's nomination for the 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year award.
