Lumberjacks Announce the Signing of Czech's Kocourkova

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The summer months are relatively low-key for the Northern Arizona University golf program but today, the Lumberjacks are excited to announce the squad has officially signed overseas athlete Eliska Kocourkova to its roster.

Kocourkova comes to Flagstaff by way of the Czech Republic and is set to join the team this fall as she transitions from Europe to America. The 19 year-old rounds out an NAU roster of eight heading into the 2017-18 campaign.

"We are really excited for [Kocourkova] to join our program," said Head Golf Coach Brad Bedortha. "She has pieced together a very good junior career in the Czech Republic, and she will be able to come in and help our team immediately. The character skills she possesses fit in perfectly with the program we are building, and we're looking forward to her joining us in August."

As Bedortha referenced above, Kocourkova's career resume is certainly impressive. A member of the Prague Golf Club, Kocourkova won her Club's Amateur Championship title in back-to-back seasons (2015, 2016), while also posting second-place finishes at the Czech Amateur Tour No. 2 (71-75-76—222) and the Czech Amateur Tour No. 4 (71-77-71—219) in 2016.

Most recently, Kocourkova registered a 13th-place scorecard (77-82-79—238) at the Czech Amateur Tour No. 3 earlier this month.

Kocourkova has also been an integral piece on a number of successful teams during her amateur career as well. A member of the first-place Czech U16 team, third-place Czech U18 team, and the Olympic Hopes Trophy U17 team that won the championship in 2015, Kocourkova aims to sustain that winning mentality as she enters the collegiate realm of golf later this year.

"I like where NAU is located, and I also like Coach Bedortha's approach as well as the other golfers on the team," said Kocourkova, when asked why she chose the Lumberjack golf program.
