NAU’s Anokhina is Representing Russia at World University Games

Sofia Anokhina is representing Russia at the 29th World University Games, August 24-27 at the Sunrise Golf & Country Club in Taipei, Taiwan.
Anokhina opened the event with a round of 77 (+5) and currently sits in a tie for 27th heading into the second day of competition. She shot the best score for her team of Russia, who is in 13th place in the country standings.
The World University Games, officially the Summer Universiade, are an international, multi-sport event organized for university athletes by the International University and Sports Federation. The competition takes place every two years. Outside of the Olympic Games, the World University Games represent the largest multi-sport event in the world, dating to its creation in 1923.
The women's golf portion of the event consists of a maximum of three competitors for each team/country.
The competition will be played over 72 holes of stroke play, with 18 holes played each day from Thursday-Sunday. The two best individual results each day count towards the team standings, with the highest score getting eliminated. The total team scores are determined by adding the two best individual scores from each day for the four rounds.
The winner of the individual event is the golfer with the lowest scores for the four rounds.
The gold medal will be awarded to the team with the lowest aggregate score for 72 holes.
Competition will begin at 6:30 a.m. each day in Taipei, which will be 3:30 p.m. PT the previous day in Flagstaff. Taipei is 15 hours ahead of Pacific time.
