CHENEY, Wash. — In their second game of the conference opening weekend, the Northern Arizona women's soccer team took on the defending Big Sky Conference champions in what was a tough loss for the Lumberjacks Sunday afternoon. The Eastern Washington Eagles dominated the game sweeping the 'Jacks 4-0 in Cheney. Head Coach
Andre Luciano and the Lumberjacks are now 6-5 on the season and 1-1 in Big Sky play.
"First and foremost we have to give Eastern Washington credit," Luciano said. "They are a really good team with some special and dynamic players."
One of those dynamic players is Chloe Williams, who scored the first goal for the Eagles in the 19
th minute and built the momentum that carried her team to their first conference victory over the 'Jacks. Williams currently holds the record for career points and is second in career goals in the Big Sky.
Northern Arizona struggled offensively with five shots, one on goal, against Eastern Washington's 16 shots, 10 on goal. After the first goal, the Eagles gained momentum scoring again in the first half and putting two more in the back of the net in the second half. Defensively, senior goalkeeper
Meghan Dickmann had six saves and dealt with the Eagles' seven corner kicks.
"We just have to figure out how to come back on Sundays," said Luciano. "As a coaching staff we have to sit down, dissect our play, figure out where we need to improve and get ourselves ready for our next game on Friday."
The Lumberjacks come out of the weekend 1-1 on the road in the conference opening weekend and will return to action next weekend to host Northern Colorado Friday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. and North Dakota Sunday, Oct. 1 at noon.
