Cross Country / September 25, 2017
NEW ORLEANS - The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its Week Three regional rankings today, and named the Northern Arizona University men's cross country team the top team in the Mountain Region while the women's team remained at No. 11, respectively.
Due to a quiet week for most of the nation's cross country teams, there were little changes atop the rankings.
Northern Arizona was followed on the men's side by Colorado, BYU, Southern Utah and Colorado State to round out the region's top five.
Colorado, New Mexico, Utah State, BYU and Utah made up the top five in the women's regional rankings. The top five in the men's and women's mountain regionals remained the same as the week before.
It was the fourth-consecutive week to open the season that the NAU men sat as the No. 1 team in the region. On the women's side, it was the fourth-straight week that the Lumberjacks appeared in the top 15 teams.
Both the men's and women's teams kicked off their season by winning the George Kyte Classic back on Sept. 2. The men's side took home the title with a perfect score of 15, finishing with the top five racers at the event. The women's side took home the classic crown with 46 points, nudging teams from UCLA, Arizona State, Grand Canyon University and the University of Arizona.
Both teams return to action this weekend with the running of the Greater Louisville Classic, hosted by the University of Louisville on Saturday, Sept. 30.
