Men’s Cross Country Receives Its 2016 NCAA National Championship Rings
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - The members of the men's 2016 Northern Arizona University NCAA National Championship winning team received their rings tonight in a special ceremony at the Little America Hotel in Flagstaff.

Former Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Eric Heins returned to give his former team the championship rings they earned a year ago. Joining him was current director Michael Smith, the President of NAU, Dr. Rita Cheng, the Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics, Dr. Lisa Campos and Lumberjack supporters.

All 14 members of the men's team received a ring to celebrate the historic season, thanks in part to donations from NAU boosters to make sure that every member of the team was included.

The national title was the first in school history for NAU, and also the first non-football national championship won in the Big Sky conference. The team has repeat on its mind, and looks to be on the right path, already earning the No. 1 ranking in the nation to go with winning its opening meet, the George Kyte Classic last Saturday.

The 2017 team will return to action with the running of the Dave Murray Invitational, hosted by the University of Arizona on Friday, Sept. 15.
