FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (October 7, 2018) – The Northern Arizona volleyball team will play the first of four consecutive road matches Monday night at Southern Utah. First serve is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. MST. The Lumberjacks have defeated the Thunderbirds in nine straight meetings and have not dropped a set to their rival in the last five head-to-head matchups.
NAU will be facing a quick turnaround with a Monday match, but is riding a wave of momentum after sweeping both Montana State and Montana this past week at home. The Lumberjacks have won three of their last four matches, with all wins coming in three-set fashion. After sweeping the Bobcats and the Grizzlies, the Lumberjacks are now 12-7 overall and are one of four teams tied for third at 4-2 in conference after three weeks of league play.
The 'Jacks hit .326 as a team during their brief stay at home, and are now hitting a Big Sky leading .267 in conference play. Overall this season, junior
Abby Stomp and freshman
Aubrea Bandfield has set the Lumberjacks to a .245 clip, which ranks second in the league.
Redshirt senior
Kaylie Jorgenson has moved back into the top 10 of the conference in kills, averaging a team-high 3.04 kills per set. Jorgenson also is pacing the team with 12 double-doubles, having notched one in three consecutive matches.
While junior
Abby Akin, sophomore
Heaven Harris and freshman
Ryann Davis have provided consistent offense for the Lumberjacks all season, redshirt senior
Brittni Dorsey has quietly been a reliable option as well of late. Since the start of conference, Dorsey is averaging 1.52 kills per set and hitting .462, which would lead the Big Sky if she had enough attempts to qualify.
With 23 digs on Saturday versus Montana, senior
Jordan Anderson moved up to sixth in program history in career digs. Anderson, averaging 4.62 digs per set, is currently sitting at 1,173 digs.
Should NAU win on Monday, head coach
Ken Murphy would register his 200th career win as a head coach. Murphy, in his sixth year at helm of the 'Jacks, has notched 117 of his 199 wins to date at NAU.
Monday's match will be available on Pluto TV Channel 236, both
online and on the free Pluto TV app.
