Northern Arizona Soccer and Weber State Battle to a 0-0 Tie

The Lumberjacks remain undefeated in conference play

OGDEN, Utah (September 23, 2018) – The Northern Arizona women's soccer team ended Sunday's 110-minute overtime game against Weber State in a 0-0 tie.  The Lumberjacks' record goes to 5-3-2 on the season after the tie, while going 1-0-1 in the Big Sky conference.  Whereas Weber State goes to 3-3-4 on the season and 1-0-1 in conference.

This was the fourth overtime game of the year for the Lumberjacks, with NAU going 2-0-2 in overtime games.  The game was very even throughout as NAU was outshot 10-9.

"To come out of this weekend 1-0-1 with four points is critical as we have another road weekend game in Cedar City," NAU head coach Andre Luciano said.

The first half remained even as the shot totals were 4-3 in favor of NAU.  The 'Jacks came out aggressive as they were able to get off the first two shots off of the half.  In the 7th minute, Haleigh Van Allen was able to get a shot off just wide of the net and Kayla Terhune was able to get a shot on goal in the 18th minute.

The second half remained similar to the first half as neither team was able to breakthrough for a goal.  Taryn Benham came up with the save of the game off of a breakaway shot by Morgan Quarnberg in the opening minute of the half.  The best chance for NAU came off of the foot of Van Allen when her shot hit the post in the 52nd minute.

In the first overtime of the day, the only chance that the Lumberjacks had was a last second shot by Tatum Heeres, which was saved by the Wildcats' goalkeeper Nikki Pittman.

The 'Jacks were able to get off one last shot on the net in the final overtime, with a header by Ari Gonzalez in the 108th minute.

"I thought that we played our best game of the season in terms of our organization and communication against a very good Weber State team," Luciano said.

Benham ended the game with her fourth shutout of the season, while picking up four saves throughout the 110 minutes today.

"Taryn had an incredible game in goal stopping two point blank breakaways," Luciano said.  "Give credit to Weber State for stepping up their game in the second half and putting us under pressure."

Northern Arizona will be back in action on the road next weekend as they take on conference foe Southern Utah on Sunday, September 30 at 12 p.m.
