Emma Robson Scores Equalizer, Resulting in 1-1 Draw at Sacramento State

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Oct. 4, 2019) – Northern Arizona University women's soccer faced their second Big Sky Conference opponent, Sacramento State (6-1-5), resulting in their second season tie of 1-1.

"We feel happy about the result on the road, we fought very hard and I am extremely proud of the effort our team gave," head coach Kylie Louw said. "We competed to the very last second of the game and that's who we are."

During the first half of the game, Mei-Te Coco was the only player able to take a shot-on-goal due to Sacramento's strong defense, making tackles and booting the ball back to the center of the field.

Feeding off of the first half energy, the Hornets' Camila Fonseca scored just one minute after kick-off during the second.

Emma Robson, a defender for Northern Arizona, was able to score and equal the score at the 65th minute of the game, receiving her first career goal as a Lumberjack. The goal was off of the third consecutive corner kick taken by Sam Larberg. Robson took one more shot, ending the night with two.

Kalea Gurfield took two shots with one being on-goal during the second period of overtime, with the Sacramento State's goalkeeper making the save.

The 'Jacks were unable to find the goal again during the last 25 minutes of the second half, sending the game into overtime. The game remained tied through both overtime periods.

Northern Arizona outshot Sacramento State nine to seven, with five shots on-goal for the Lumberjacks and three on-goal for the Hornets.

Taryn Benham recorded two saves, both of which were during the second overtime, keeping Sacramento State from scoring the golden goal.

"We have a short turn around for Sunday and we are looking forward to getting on the field again to compete against Portland State," Louw said.

The Lumberjacks (5-4-2) will continue their away weekend with a game against the Portland State Vikings on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 1 p.m.
