TUCSON, Ariz. (April 27, 2019) - Northern Arizona University's track & field program participated in its final meet of the 2019 outdoor regular season on Saturday at the Desert Heat Classic hosted by the University of Arizona at Roy P. Drachman Stadium.

The one day Classic was the Lumberjacks final meet before Big Sky Conference Championships start on May 8th in Missoula. Mont.

NAU saw top-five finishes across all disciplines, with
Matilde Roe's Discus performance and
James Fitzgerald's and
Jenna McCaffrey's 3000m Steeplechase races headlining an impressive overall team showing.Â

JUMPS
Helena McLeod took second in the Women's Long Jump with a mark of 6.05m that she reached on her first attempt. McLeod also registered a mark of 6.04m in that event on her second attempt. She held the top mark in the conference at 6.16m entering Saturday.

Cameron Rayford came in fourth-place in the Men's Triple Jump after he leapt for a mark of 14.07m on his second attempt in that event.
Obang Odol placed sixth in that event off of a 13.78m jump reached on his first attempt.
Â
Odol also had a top-five mark in the Men's High Jump after clearing 2.01m on his third attempt at that height.

SPRINTS/HURDLES
Jasmine Malone's time of 53.89 in the Women's 400m Dash saw her earn fifth-place. Malone had a top-10 finish in the 200m Dash coming in ninth-place at 24.09.
Sara Murray set a new PR in the Women's 400 Hurdles with a time of 1:08.84. That performance also earned Malone the second best time in the Big Sky, based on statistics prior to the meet.

Tyren Wolfe also had a pair of top-10 performance in the Men's 400m and 200m Dashes. Wolfe recorded a time of 48.66 in the 400m (eighth) and 21.28 in the 200m (sixth). Teammate AJ Hollis set a new PR in the 400m with a time of 50.38 to best his previous PR of 51.87 that was earned at the Beach Invitational last week.

Carter Bracken set a new PR as he came in first in his heat to result in a fifth-place finish in the Men's 400m Hurdles at 53.22. That time was a big improvement over his previous PR of 53.78 set at the 2019 Bryan Clay Invite.

DISTANCE
 The Lumberjacks men's and women's distance teams had a pair of first-place finishers in the 3000m Steeplechase.
James Fitzgerald was the top male collegiate finisher in that event off of a 9:16.02 race.
Jenna McCaffrey captured first on the women's end of that event with a time of 11:11.54.

Fitzgerald's 3000m Steeplechase was the third best time in the Big Sky as of the time of publication.
Kyle Havriliak owns the second spot at 9:02.68.

Delaney Rasmussen and
Emma Sjolund earned top-three performances in the Women's 1500m Run. Rasmussen placed second off of a 4:33.52 race, with Sjolund following suit with a 4:35.98 time that cemented a new PR for the freshman.

Maggie Carruth led the 'Jacks in the Women's 800m Run with a second-place finish coming in at 2:07.71. Freshman
Melanie Loff was not far behind placing sixth at 2:15.99. Both Carruth (2. 2:07.34) and Loff (8. 2:13.22) have two of the top-10 times in the conference in the 800m entering the weekend.

Mitchell Small was the second male collegiate runner to cross the finish line in the 1500m Run. Small's time of 3:59.61 earned him his third sub-four minute 1500m race, with the other two coming at the 2019 Baldy Castillo and Bryan Clay Invites.
Elliot Gindi and
Harvey Nelson also finished in the top-10 with Gindi coming in at fifth (4:00.14) and Nelson at sixth (4:01.61).Â

THROWS
Matilde Roe set a new PR at 50.13m in the Women's Discus, and also continued to establish herself as the Big Sky leader in the discus after topping her previous best of 50.03m. Roe would come in third-place in that event on Saturday. Roe came in sixth in the Shot Put after her third throw hit a mark of 13.67m.

Paige Inman came in ninth-place in the Hammer Throw on a 50.97 throw, which would also give the junior a new PR as well.

Jacob Kaufman and
John Murphy both had top-five marks in the Men's Hammer Throw and set new PR's in that event. Kaufman threw for 60.50m on his third attempt to take third-place; Murphy's mark of 57.70m shattered his previous PR of 54.32m that was also set at the Beach Invite last weekend.

Parker Joens placed fourth in the Men's Discus with a 51.92m throw on his fifth attempt.
Brady Williams set a new PR in the Discus with a mark of 50.66m earned on his second throw.

William Beaudry set a new PR in the Men's Javelin Throw. The sophomore placed seventh off of a 54.89m throw made on his first attempt of the day in that event.

Joens and
Jake Arnold had a pair of top-10 throws in the Men's Shot Put. Joens registered a mark of 17.57m on his last attempt, with Arnold following up with a 17.03m mark on his third throw.
