Four Northern Arizona Swimmers and Divers Named Scholar All-American Team

July 8, 2019 – The College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) named 1,221 swimmers and divers to Scholar All-American Team for the 2018-19 season this last Tuesday.

The award recognizes students that have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and competed at their respective Swimming and Diving Championships. In addition to the 1,221 first-team selections, 890 students were named as Honorable Mention selections. These students have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a "B" time standard or competed at an NCAA Regional or Zone Diving qualifier.

Among the 1,221 granted the title, four represent NAU: Tatiana Kurach, Jennifer Cheetham, Elisa Rodriguez and Christina Torrente.

Kurach, Criminology & Criminal Justice major, dove at the 2019 Zone Diving Championship, to earn the recognition, finishing in 11th in the finals with 545.95 points.

Cheetham, an Exercise Science major, recently participated in the Western Athletic Conference Championships, placing in 2nd in the 1M. She also placed 10th in the final for the 3M dive at the WAC Championship.  Cheetham's participation in the Zone Diving Championship also earned her the Scholar All-American recognition.

Rodriguez, a Psychology major, placed first in the WAC Championship 100 yd Free finals and tied for the win in the 50 yd Freestyle. Her NCAA "B" standard qualifying times of 22.63 and 48.90, respectively, earned Rodriguez the honor.

Torrente, a Marketing major, also competed in the Zone Diving Championships to earn the title of scholar All-American.  She finished 21st in the 1M and 34th in the 3M.  At the WAC Championships Torrente scored point in all three events, by finishing 3rd on the 1M, 3rd on the 3M, and 6th on the platform.
