NAU Soccer Wraps Up Long Road Swing

Women’s soccer finishes their five away game stretch at UNLV and NMSU

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (September 18, 2019) – Northern Arizona University's women's soccer team finishes up their tough road stretch with a pair of games this weekend at UNLV on Friday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. and NMSU on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 1 p.m.
 
NAU (2-3-1) most recently fell to New Mexico 3-0 this past Sunday, Sept. 15. Paige Maling, junior forward, took a total of four shots, all being on-goal. She continues to lead the 'Jacks statistically for the fourth week in a row, totaling 15 shots with 10 shots-on-goal, six points and three goals.

This will be the 12th time Northern Arizona has faced UNLV in a match. Since 2012, the teams have met every year since. Over the last seven matchups, NAU has recorded six losses and one tie.Last year, UNLV scored two goals in a 2-0 victory.
 
UNLV's current record is 2-4. The Rebels' most recent losses have come against three ranked schools, No. 12 Duke, No. 1 North Carolina and No. 12 Texas A&M. Their two wins were earned against California Baptist University and CSU Bakersfield. In both games, UNLV scored two goals each with the four goals being the only scored so far this season.
 
Freshman Alysa Caso was the sole scorer in their matchup against CSU Bakersfield and currently leads the team in goals and points. Senior Katie Ballou follows behind, scoring against California Baptist once, but taking 12 shots, two being on-goal. 
 
UNLV's two goalkeepers, Emberly Sevilla and Elly Reynada, together have faced 116 shots, saving a total of 34 and only allowing 17 goals.

Northern Arizona will travel to Las Cruces, N.M. for the third time as they head south to challenge New Mexico State. The Aggies and the Lumberjacks have faced off a total of six times with NAU recording four wins, a loss and a tie. Last season, the 'Jacks won 3-2 in overtime after a golden goal by Kayla Terhune.
 
New Mexico State has recorded an overall record of 1-3-2 so far this season, earning their one win against Idaho State on Sept. 1.  
 
Shea O'Connor, a junior, leads the Aggies with a total of three goals, 19 shots (seven on-goal), and six points. O'Connor scored her goals against Abilene Christian, Texas State, and UTEP.
 
Dmitri Fong, NMSU's goalie, has 37 saves, recording a 0.755 save percentage.
