FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (September 25, 2019) – Northern Arizona University women's soccer (3-4-1) returns to Flagstaff after a long, five road game swing. They will be playing the University of Houston on Friday, Sept. 27 and have their first Big Sky Conference match against Southern Utah University Sunday, Sept 29 at 1 p.m.
Northern Arizona has not been on their home turf since their opener against Detroit Mercy, where the 'Jacks found a 4-0 win over the Titans. Since then, the team has traveled to USC, Pacific, New Mexico, UNLV and New Mexico State University. During the stretch, the 'Jacks found one win over NMSU, with a score of 1-0.
Kiana Miyazato scored her first game-winning, collegiate goal as a Lumberjack this past Sunday at NMSU. The goal came off an assist from
Kayla Terhune.
Taryn Benham recorded her third shutout of the season against NMSU. The first two were against Iona College Aug. 25 and Detroit Mercy. Last season, Benham recorded ten shutouts, seven of which were against conference teams. The two teams Benham did not shutout were Idaho State and Eastern Washington.
The team records a total of nine goals, scoring 1.29 goals per game. They take 14.7 shots per game, totaling up to 103 shots and 54 being on-goal.
Madison Montgomery leads the team with four goals, 19 shots, seven of which are all on-goal. Montgomery recorded her last goal against UNLV. The goal equaled the playing field for five minutes before the Rebels were able to take the lead again, winning 1-2.

The Lumberjacks first matchup against the Cougars was on Sept. 1, 2017. Houston won, leading the game 4-1. Despite the loss, NAU outshot Houston, recording 15 shots, seven being on-goal. Houston's 2017 team took a total of nine shots, six being on-goal. Since then, NAU has not met with Houston.
Houston has a current record of 3-6. They have their winning games against Sam Houston State, University of the Incarnate Word, and Stephen F. Austin. They record an average of 1.33 goals per game, have taken 118 shots with 54 on-goal, averaging at 13.1 shots per game.
Four different players tie for two goals: Jazmin Grant, Nolin Parker, Reid Morrison and Morgan Goode. Grant, Houston's statistical leader, records one assist and ten shots with six on-goal. She also scored the most recent game-winning goal against SFA on Sept. 15. As the team headed into overtime, with a score of 1-1, Grant found the back of the net, scoring at the 96th minute to win.
All three of their goalies have played. Together, they have saved a total of 26 goals after facing 93 shots.

The Lumberjacks begin their conference season this Sunday, facing Southern Utah University, one of their nine Big Sky opponents.
The Thunderbirds have yet to find a win this season, facing their share of strong teams like CSUN (6-1-3), UTEP (6-2-2) and BYU (8-0).
Out of their 39 shot attempts, the Thunderbirds have recorded a single goal by Makenzie Lawrence. Lawrence's goal was against CSU Bakersfield on Sept. 20, where the team went 1-2. Lawrence has taken a majority of the shots at 10, three being on-goal.
