Lumberjack Q&A with Aubrea Bandfield

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (June 8, 2020) – In her first two seasons as a Lumberjack, Aubrea Bandfield has recorded 1,150 assists for the Northern Arizona volleyball team, which already ranks eighth-most during the rally scoring era since 2001.

Last season, Bandfield averaged 4.36 assists per set and notched 541 total assists while helping lead an NAU offense that ranked second in the conference in hitting percentage. She also has been effective behind the service line where her 74 aces place her second on the team over the last two seasons.

Q: Where are you right now and what does a normal day look like for you?

A: I am currently in Temecula, Calif. A normal day for me would be waking up and working out in the morning, then I will hang out by the pool for a couple hours and spend some time with my family. In the evenings I sometimes coach a couple players at my old volleyball club here in Temecula.

Q: What are you most looking forward to when you get back to competing on the court?

A: I'm most looking forward to just being back with my teammates and being able to play and hang out with them. We were making a lot of progress this past spring season so I'm excited to get back to it.

Q: What is motivating or encouraging you to push through these difficult times?

A: My parents. They have encouraged me to make the most of this time off so I can be ready to go when we return back to NAU.

Q: How did you first get into your sport?

A: I first got into volleyball when I was about 11. I was pretty tall for my age so my parents suggested I should try out volleyball or basketball and I chose volleyball.

Q: If you could be a dual-sport athlete at NAU, what sport would you compete in and why?

A: Definitely track and field. I have a lot of respect for their sport and I think it would be fun to do high jump or sprints.

Q: If you could pick any other NAU student-athlete to try out your sport, who would it be and why?

A: I'd like to see some of the basketball players play volleyball. I think they'd be fun to watch because of their athleticism and jumps.

Q: What is your best volleyball memory ever?

A: My best volleyball memory was the Florida game my freshman year. That was probably the most fun game I've ever played in.

Q: What is your major and what are your career aspirations?

A: My major is business marketing. I'm not quite sure what exactly I would like to do with my degree yet, but I'd like to pursue some kind of career in sports marketing.
