Northern Arizona Women’s Soccer Falls 3-0 to Southernmost In-State Rival, Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. (February 20, 2021) – In their second match during its 2021 spring season, the Northern Arizona women's soccer program has encountered their first 3-0 loss to the Arizona Wildcats today.

Arizona demanded NAU to play defensively throughout the duration of the game. With the Cats taking 15 shots, Lumberjack goalkeeper Taryn Benham was forced to make six saves on the night. While Northern Arizona protected its side of the pitch, multiple players stepped up, blocking possible shots from the Arizona offensive and turning the direction back in favor of the 'Jacks.

Ultimately, U of A totaled three goals on Northern Arizona, scoring one in the first half and two in the second.

While the in-state opponent remained tough through all 90 minutes of play, Northern Arizona was able to pull together offensively multiple times, attempting five shots with one on goal from Kayla Terhune

The Lumberjacks will have a few weeks before their next match on March 12, 2021. Northern Arizona will look to host their first Big Sky Conference home game weekend series against Weber State.
