LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 19, 2021) – The Northern Arizona volleyball team was sensational in the classroom during the 2020-21 academic year, compiling a qualifying cumulative grade point average of 3.65 to earn the Team Academic Award by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
It is the third time in the last four years, and the ninth time overall in program history, that the Lumberjack volleyball program was recognized by the AVCA for their academic excellence. NAU previously earned the award in 1993, 2004, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2018 and 2019 as the award dates back to the 1992-93 academic year.
Collegiate and high school volleyball teams that maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative GPA on a 5.0 scale are honored with the Team Academic Award. Only players who saw time on the court during the competitive season during the academic year are part of the nomination process.
The 11 student-athletes to appear in a match during the unique spring 2021 season combined to post a team GPA of 3.65 for the academic year. Ten of the 11 Lumberjacks posted a GPA of 3.0 or better for the year and freshmen

Jordan Elder,
Kate Hatch and
Millie O'Ketter had perfect 4.0's in their first year of college.
The entire roster, including those who did not compete in a match this spring, had an even better team GPA of 3.68 for the year.
The NAU volleyball program had 10 players earn both the Golden Eagle Scholar-Athlete award and Big Sky Fall All-Academic honors this year.
