FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (October 11. 2022) - The Lumberjacks are looking to continue their winning streak this week on the road as they head to Northern Colorado and Montana to take on the Bears and the Grizzlies in the last pair of road matches in the regular season.
NAU holds a record of 4-5-4, while starting conference play 3-1. The 'Jacks have not started Big Sky play this well since the Spring 2021 season where the team pushed to the championship match.
This week Maddie Shafer was awarded her second offensive player of the week accolade after scoring two game-winners in both matches against Eastern Washington and Idaho. Shafer leads the conference in points with 14 total, and has scored a career high of five goals so far this season. Shafer, with four assists, needs one more to break her career high.
Trinity Corcoran earned her first Big Sky defensive player of the week after recording her sixth shutout of the season in her ninth start. Corcoran moved up to No. 17 in the country in save percentage at 0.872. The sophomore keeper has a save percentage of .944 in Big Sky play, only allowing one goal through four matches.
NAU's back line has proven strong yet again as it holds the last four opponents to 21 shots on goal total, while the 'Jacks have put up 41. The Lumberjacks moved into the No. 3 spot in the Big Sky standings this week, sitting behind Portland State (4-0-1) and Idaho (4-1).
Northern Colorado (4-8-3, 0-4-1 Big Sky) sits in last place in the conference standings, dropping their last two to Montana and Idaho. The Bears have not won a match since Sept. 4 where they beat North Dakota State 5-0 in Greeley.
UNC is led by Sophomore forward Lauren Woodhull who has five goals and one assist with a SOG% of .600. Woodhull's last goal came on Sept. 11 to Virginia Tech, and her last assist came on Sept. 30 to Eastern Washington. The Bears have spread the offense out well this season, with nine different players scoring goals for the team.
In the box for Northern Colorado is Kayla Lindberg, the junior goalkeeper from California. Lindberg has made 80 saves this season through 15 starts and 3 shutouts. The keeper has a save percentage of .784, and has allowed six goals in Big Sky play.
NAU's series with the Bears stands at 10-10-1, as UNC has the upper hand after shutting out the Lumberjacks 2-0 last season in Flagstaff. NAU has only recorded one win over UNC in Greeley, making this week's match more crucial as the 'Jacks keep their eyes on a seat in the Big Sky Championships.
Montana will enter the weekend matchup with a 5-4-6 record and a 2-2-1 Big Sky record. Last week the Griz picked up a 2-1 win facing Northern Colorado, while tying 0-0 versus Eastern Washington.
Leading goal scorer Delaney Lou Schorr has recorded six goals and one assist through five starts and fourteen games played. Schorr holds a SOG% of .611, scoring her latest goal on Oct. 9n against Northern Colorado. Camellia Xu has played every minute in goal for Montana, making 50 saves through seven shutouts, holding a save percentage of .820.
Montana has won the last three against the 'Jacks, the latest coming last season in a 1-0 loss for the Lumberjacks in Flagstaff.
