Lumberjacks Extend Win Streak to 4, with 1-0 Big Sky Shutout to Northern Colorado

GREELEY, Colo. (October 13, 2022) - The Lumberjacks extended their win streak to 4 matches with a 1-0 win in Northern Colorado.

Improving their Big Sky record to 4-1, NAU picked up the first road win of the weekend, on a late goal by Junior Josie Novak.

Novak stepped up as the hometown hero to score with seven minutes left in the match, breaking the tie and scoring her third of the season in her home state of Colorado.

The 'Jacks and the Bears played a heavily defensive match as each team saw chances throughout the match, battling to open scoring.

The Bears got a quick chance in the 13th minute of the match, dribbling right into the box, putting up a close shot, picked up by Trinity Corcoran for her first save of the night.

Novak's first chance of the game came just fifteen minutes into the match. The forward picked up a pass from Dai Williams off the right side, sending a long boot to UNC's keeper, Kaya Lindberg who made one of her four saves on the night.

Corcoran made her tenth start for NAU, earning her seventh shutout, her fourth straight. Corcoran moves up in NAU's record book as the No. 5 goalkeeper in shutouts in a single season. The sophomore keeper faced three shots on goal throughout the match.

Novak's lone goal came off a beautiful pass from Kayla Shebar as Shebar battled with a Northern Colorado defender inside the left of the box. Shebar came out with the ball, finding Novak just outside the box as Novak ripped a shot, scoring in the bottom right corner of the net.

The 'Jacks held strong through the final seven minute of the match, to earn the 1-0 shutout.

The Lumberjacks are heading back into action this Sunday on the road, for a match against Montana in Missoula at 11 a.m. MST.
