Corcoran Records Eight Saves in 0-0 Draw with Georgia Southern

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (September 1, 2022) - The Lumberjacks and Eagles Thursday night match came to a 0-0 draw decision after ninety minutes of play.

Highlighting the match and earning NAU's APS player of the game, sophomore goalkeeper Trinity Corcoran impressed the Flagstaff crowd in her first career solo shutout. Corcoran had the crowd on its feet with eight saves through the game after earning the start.

"I'm proud of them, we had a clean sheet which is what we wanted, we created a bunch of chances, and we were dynamic," head coach Kylie Louw said. "When you hear the crowd stay the whole game and cheer like that, you can't not be proud of them."

The Lumberjacks outshot Georgia Southern 15-11, putting seven shots on goal total. NAU had multiple opportunities inside the box, as a few shots were out just wide. One of the biggest chances coming in the 32nd minute of the match, as Josie Novak ripped a shot to the bottom left corner of the net, saved by GSU's Katie Oakley. Oakley recorded seven saves total.

"If you look at the first half compared to the second half, we were able to put some challenges on the team at halftime and changed the formation, and the team did it. It created some chances and the players were dynamic, that's the IQ part of it because you can't teach that," Louw said.

Novak came off the bench in the first half and went on to put up four shots, three on goal. Freshman Morgan Caslin recorded three shots, with Allison Veloz and Dad Williams each recording two a piece.

The Eagles created their share of chances in NAU's box, pushing the defense and Corcoran to make the saves. Finding control over possession about twenty minutes into the second half, GSU's Elis Nemtsov sent a boot right to the top left of the goal, where Corcoran made the jumping save. The Eagles received back to back corner kicks directly after the save, where the 'Jacks were able to clear the ball on each.

Nemtsov led the Eagles offense, as she recorded four shots and two on goal, followed by Olivia Durham who put two shots on goal.

The Lumberjacks are heading on the road for the first time this season, as they will take on Cal State Bakersfield next Thursday night, before heading back home to take on Air Force on Sunday.
