LOS ANGELES, Calif. (September 23, 2022) - NAU soccer draws 0-0 tie with the undefeated Loyola Marymount Lions on Friday night in California.
Looking to capitalize on last week's offensive momentum, the 'Jacks created their first chance of the night early, as Grace Quinn sent her shot to the bottom left of the net, forcing Lions goalkeeper Amanda Delgado to make the early save.
In the ninth minute of the match, NAU goalkeeper Trinity Corcoran stunned the Lions as she picked up her first save of the night. LMU's Madison Werner picked up a pass as she headed into the box, putting up a strong shot, as Corcoran was more than ready to earn the save.
Possession time was even for both sides throughout the first half, as the 'Jacks went into halftime with the 6-2 edge on shots.
Amanda Delgado ranks third in the NCAA for save percentage, which was a visible stat throughout the game as Delgado defended her net impressively, as the graduate student keeper had only allowed two goals through six games this season.
NAU did not let up on the offensive pressure coming out of half-time as Kayla Shebar forced Delgado to make her fourth save of the night on a one-on-one attempt from Shebar as Delgado rushed out to make the sliding save in the 46th minute of the match.
The Lumberjacks were able to show off their defensive strengths in tonight's match as Corcoran earned her third shutout of the season. The back line for NAU had an impressive night helping their keeper. One example being Logan Maszton's huge block in the 76th minute of the match, to hold the Lions scoreless.
The 'Jacks forced out of 5 shots on goal, 14 total as the Lions put up four shots total, one on goal.
NAU soccer will be back in action on Sunday as they head to take on the University of San Diego to close out the weekend road trip to California. Sunday's match will be the 'Jacks last non-conference matchup.
