FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (September 9, 2022) - NAU Soccer moves their record to 0-3-2 through five regular season matches, as they drop the 2-1 match to CSU Bakersfield in the final minute of the game.
The 'Jacks outshot the Roadrunners 19-7 total through the match. NAU held possession for the majority of the first half, finding their lone goal about halfway through the half.
The Lumberjacks opened up scoring in the 24th minute of the match after NAU took their second corner kick of the match. Freshman Avery Ott sent the corner straight to the goal, as her shot was blocked by goalkeeper Hollee Hercik, Dan Williams took the ball off the bounce and scored her first career goal as a Lumberjack.
Heading into halftime, NAU put up four shots on goal, nine total. Goalkeeper Ashley Williams made one save through the first 45.
The roadrunners tied the match up in the 60th minute of the match as Kalea Eichenberger took the ball from a throw-in, speeding up the left side of the field past NAU defenders and scored her shot from inside the box.
All tied up, both teams continued to apply pressure as NAU saw a few opportunities on set pieces. Coming down to the wire, The Roadrunners were able to take the lead in the final minute of the match.
Karen Flores picked up a pass and sent a shot that was blocked by Williams, that bounced back out to CSUB's Jette Zimmer who was on the left side of the net. Zimmer took the shot on NAU's empty net, to secure the win for the Roadrunners.
NAU's offensive efforts were led by Dai Williams took three shots total, putting two on goal with one goal, followed by Josie Novak who took six shots with three on goal. Emilie Bennett subbed into the match, putting two shots up with one on goal.
Ashley Williams started in goal for NAU, making two saves throughout 90 minutes. CSUB's goalkeeper Hercik played all 90 minutes for the roadrunners, making nine saves total.
The Lumberjacks will now make the trip back to Flagstaff to take on Air Force at home on Sunday, the match will kick off at 1 p.m. MST at Lumberjack Stadium.
