FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (January 27, 2023) - The Lumberjacks will travel to Utah Tech to take on the Trailblazers Saturday morning, beginning the meet at 11:30 a.m. MST. The meet will be live-streamed here and will only include swimming events.
The Jacks are coming off a big Pac-12 victory against Washington State in Tucson. The Jacks earned a 178-116 victory against the Cougars after an impressive meet. Maddy Rey's performance was stellar, claiming victory in the 500-yard freestyle by over four seconds (5:00.02) and finishing second in the 400-yard IM (4:29.51) in a close finish race. A large boost in points came in the 100-yard Butterfly where freshman Elsa Musselman (55.62) and Caylah Jago (57.77) finished second and fourth respectively to both beat out Washington State's best finisher, Skylar Brgoch, in fifth.
The Trailblazers are entering Saturday's meet with three dual meet losses this season, dropping to Northern Colorado, San Diego State, and Idaho most recently. Utah Tech hosted their own three day invitational in November, finishing fourth out of eleven teams total.
Junior Pia Murray competed at the U.S. Open in Greensboro, advancing to the finals in two out of three events. Murray highlighted the meet with a 'C' final in the 200 backstroke (2:16.61), and went on to place sixth in the 100 backstroke (1:02.60).
The Lumberjacks are closing in on the WAC Championships, as the team will head to Pharr, Texas at the end of February seeking the tenth consecutive title for the Jacks. NAU will host the Lumberjack Diving Invite next weekend on Friday and Saturday at the Wall Aquatic Center.
