FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (November 3, 2023) – Following its first WAC Conference meet and win at Idaho two weeks ago, the Northern Arizona Swimming and Diving team will be back in action on Saturday morning as they host New Mexico at Wall Aquatic Center in their maiden regular season home meet, beginning at 11 a.m.
"We are really excited to be back at home," head coach Andy Johns said. "It will be good to have our whole squad together for the first time this year, full strength. I am looking forward to seeing everybody race, I think we are in a very good spot and hope to get better from meet-to-meet, especially as we prepare for the invites in a couple of weeks."
Last season saw the Lumberjacks make the trip to Albuquerque on Nov. 4, 2022, where they would win their dual meet over the Lobos by a score of 172-120.
Eight Northern Arizona swimmers earned first-place finishes in the meet last year, and NAU swept both the 1 and 3-meter diving competitions.
Northern Arizona will be looking to take the head-to-head series lead as NAU and UNM have split the 34 meetings between the two programs. The Lumberjacks have won two consecutive dual meets over the Lobos.
Returning to compete against the Lobos this year include junior Casey Craffey, who won two distance events last season at New Mexico, the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle.
Other individual first-place winners from last season's New Mexico meet that are back for more in 2023 feature seniors Maddy Rey Francesca Criscione, along with juniors Jamie Dellwardt and Maddy Rey.
Sophomore Mackenna Stocker will be looking to defend her diving performances from a season ago after winning both diving competitions in New Mexico.
As a unit, NAU scored first-place victories in 12 of the 16 events two weeks ago in Moscow en route to its first regular season win.
It was the ninth time in the last 10 opportunities that Northern Arizona would go on to win its conference opener.
