FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (December 14, 2023) – The Northern Arizona Swimming and Diving team will look to continue its undefeated WAC dual meet slate as they host New Mexico State over two days this Friday and Saturday at Wall Aquatic Center in Flagstaff.
Friday will see the Lumberjacks and Aggies compete in relays only, and the traditional 16-event dual meet will be held on Saturday morning. There will be two separate team scores for each day.
The Lumberjacks are coming off its sixteenth consecutive win in the head-to-head series last week against Northern Colorado with a 189-111 victory over the Bears. However, after splitting the first eight events, the Lumberjacks had to rally in the second half of the meet.
The aforementioned second half of the Northern Colorado meet saw Northern Arizona win five swimming events and took each of the seven best scores in the 3-meter dives.
Sophomore Elsa Musselman won two of those five events in the 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly, while seniors Annie Carlton and Maddy Rey had the best times in the 200-yard breaststroke and 500-yard freestyle.
In the final relay of the UNC dual meet, the Northern Arizona Relay 'A' team topped Northern Colorado's 'A' team with a 3:30.67 finish.
NAU divers have been a big strength for the Lumberjacks on the scoreboard, with senior Victoria Knapp winning both the 1 and 3-meter diving competitions with scores of 285.68 and a career-best 334.65.
Last season, Northern Arizona and New Mexico State competed against one another in a one-day dual meet at the NMSU campus in Las Cruces 180-120.
The head-to-head series has been largely dominated by NAU, winning 29 of the 36 meetings. Although New Mexico State swam at Wall Aquatic Center the last time, the two teams finished in a 132-132 tie, one of just two dual meet ties in program history.
On Friday, events will commence at 3:30 p.m. and 11 a.m. on Saturday morning.
