LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 13, 2023) – The Northern Arizona University volleyball was honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for their academic success with the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award.
This is the 11
th time in program history that NAU has garnered the award, and the fifth in the last six years. The Lumberjack volleyball program previously earned the award in 1993, 2004, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022 as the award dates back to the 1992-93 academic year.
The 'Jacks were part of a record-setting 1,332 teams to be honored and boasted a 3.58 GPA.
Collegiate and high school volleyball teams that maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative GPA on a 5.0 scale are honored with the Team Academic Award.
The Team Academic Award caps an outstanding year academically for the team led by head coach
Ken Murphy. A total of 10 student-athletes were honored with the Golden Eagle Scholar-Athlete award and nine of them were recognized by the Big Sky Conference with All-Academic honors.
