TUCSON, Ariz. (January 5, 2023) – Northern Arizona Swimming and Diving finished up their first and only double dual meet of the season against Arizona and Southern Illinois. Competition was held outside at Hillenbrand Aquatic Center in Tucson on Friday afternoon where the Lumberjacks fell 180-117 to the Wildcats but were able to pick up the win against the Salukis by a score of 174-126.
"Our effort and attitude were great in less-than-ideal conditions," head coach Andy Johns said as temperatures hovered around 54 degrees outside. "We're proud of that and to get a win versus SIU is a nice result against a good team from the Missouri Valley Conference."
Elsa Musselman placed first in the 50-yard freestyle, with a time of 24.01 and in the 100-yard butterfly, clocking in at 56.23.
In diving competitions, Grace Wesche placed second overall in 1-meter diving with a score of 270.45. In the 3-meter event, the Lumberjacks placed second through sixth with Mackenna Stocker (286.65), Maegan Jensen (282.45), Grace Wesche (282.25), Margaret Wesche (281.95) and Victoria Knapp (257.70) rounding up the totals.
NAU Diving will return to action next week at the UCLA Diving Invite starting Jan. 12. The two squads will be back together at Wall Aquatic Center to continue conference action as they host Utah Tech beginning Jan. 26.
"We're looking forward to getting back to Flagstaff and getting ready for Utah Tech," Johns said.
