FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (Nov. 25, 2024) – The Northern Arizona women's volleyball team will face Idaho State in the quarterfinal round of the Big Sky Conference Tournament this Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. Mountain Standard time.
The 2024 Big Sky Volleyball Championship will take place November 27-29 on the campus of Sacramento State in Sacramento, Calif. The top eight teams from the conference regular season standings have advanced to the championship, with Northern Arizona entering as the seventh seed. The tournament champion will earn the Big Sky's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
Northern Colorado concluded the regular season as the top seed, boasting an overall record of 23-6 and a 14-2 mark in Big Sky play.
The Lumberjacks wrapped up their season with an overall record of 14-13 and a conference record of 7-9. They secured their spot in the tournament with back-to-back sweeps of Eastern Washington and Idaho in their final home matches in Flagstaff.Â
Offensively, Northern Arizona is led by Taylor Jacobsen, who ranks second in the conference with an impressive 3.83 kills per set. Hannah Stoddard follows in sixth with an average of 3.10 kills per set. Keira Hall contributes with 5.15 assists per set, ranking eighth in the Big Sky. Millie O'Ketter has been a defensive standout, leading the conference in digs with a 4.75 digs-per-set average and ranking 46th nationally. O'Ketter also ranks ninth in the conference with 0.33 service aces per set.
Idaho State completed the regular season with a 20-8 overall record and an 11-5 mark in conference play. Jamie Streit leads the Bengals offensively with 2.95 kills per set, while Asiah Sopoaga anchors the defense with 3.82 digs per set. Jaydin Watts ranks second in the Big Sky for blocks with 1.37 per set, closely followed by Marci Bell in third with 1.24 per set.
The Lumberjacks faced the Bengals most recently on Nov. 16 in Pocatello, Idaho, where NAU secured a 3-2 victory. Northern Arizona has won nine of its last ten matches against Idaho State, leading the all-time series 44-40 since 1979.
