FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (April 20, 2024) – NAU Men's Tennis (16-6, 7-1) finishes regular season undefeated at home while clinching the Big Sky regular season championship after a 5-2 victory over the Idaho Vandals.
Dani Torres and
Maciej Ziomber paved their way to the Jacks first doubles win of the day, grabbing a 6-2 victory over Alex Asenov and Sebastian Medica at the No. 2 slot.
Dominik Buzonics and
Jakub Prachar then dropped at the No. 1 to Francisco Gay and Taiyo Kurata in a 7-5 match while leaving things up to court three.
Maikel De Boes and
Piotr Galus made the comeback from 5-6, Galus served the Jacks back to a 6-6 score to head to the tiebreak. De Boes then led the duo to to the 7-6 (7-4) victory over Matteo Masala and Alejandro Salvador for the 1-0 Lumberjack lead.
Idaho's Sebastian Medica would tie the match up at 1-1 with a victory on court five as Galus fell in a 6-2, 6-1 final. The Vandals took the lead at court four where Ziomber fell in a 6-1, 6-4 matchup to Mario Duron as Idaho went up 2-1 on the Jacks.
Buzonics bounced back from doubles play for a three-set singles victory at the No. 1, picking up a 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 final while facing Idaho's Francisco Gay. Buzonics victory tied the match back up at 2-2 with Torres left to play at the No. 2, De Boes at the No. 3, and Agynskyy at the No. 6.
Agynskyy tabbed the Jacks 3-2 lead with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Salvador. Torres would clinch the victory for the Jacks at the No. 2 with the comeback over Kurata for the 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 6-4 win. De Boes closed out the match at the No. 4 with a 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 victory over Matteo Masala.
