PHOENIX, Ariz. (April 27, 2024) – The Lumberjacks dropped to the Hornets with a 4-1 final in the Big Sky Championship on Saturday morning.
"We knew the doubles point was going to be huge today," head coach
Maciej Bogusz said. "We set up some goals this season and accomplished all of them, we set ourselves up to play for the championship and it's been a great season for the program. We started the season as individuals with a lot of new players but we finished as a team and I am really proud of these guys this season."
With Sacramento State taking the early 1-0 lead from a tiebreak in doubles play, the Jacks were looking for crucial singles play to bring them back around.
Dominik Buzonics and
Jakub Prachar dropped 6-4 to the Hornets top duo of Mark Keki and Mate Voros.
Maikel De Boes and
Piotr Galus quickly pulled off the 6-3 victory while facing Adam Chodur and Jan Silva at the No. 3, leaving the doubles point to the No. 2 court where
Maciej Ziomber and
Dani Torres were headed to a tiebreak. NAU's duo fell 7-6 (7-3) to Jiri Novak and Hayden Rand in the tiebreak.
The Hornets would take a 2-0 lead with Voros grabbing back-to-back 6-3 sets at the No. 2 over NAU's Torres.
