LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 18, 2024) – The Northern Arizona University volleyball team was honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for their academic success with the AVCA Team Academic Award, sponsored by INTENT.
This is the 12
th time in program history that NAU has garnered the award, and the sixth in the last seven years. The Lumberjack volleyball program previously earned the award in 1993, 2004, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023 as the award dates back to the 1992-93 academic year.
Collegiate and high school volleyball teams that maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative GPA on a 5.0 scale are honored with the Team Academic Award.
The 'Jacks were part of a record-setting 1,400 teams to be honored and strung together two admirable semesters in the classroom with a 3.45 GPA during the Fall semester and a 3.63 GPA in the Spring.
The Team Academic Award caps an outstanding year academically for the team led by head coach
Ken Murphy. A total of 12 student-athletes were honored with the Golden Eagle Scholar-Athlete award and eight of them were recognized by the Big Sky Conference with All-Academic honors.
NAU volleyball will soon get preseason practices underway with the season opener set for August 30 in San Diego. Season tickets for the 2024 campaign can be purchased here, with the 'Jacks set to host the annual Lumberjack Classic from Sept. 12-14.
