COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (September 8, 2024) Despite a second-half offensive surge, Northern Arizona soccer (0-3-2) dropped a 1-0 road matchup to Air Force on Sunday afternoon.
Â
The Lumberjacks forced plenty of opportunity to open the match, as the pace was set quickly with three corner kicks coming in the first five minutes of play. NAU would put the first shot on goal off a free kick just outside the box,
Holly Hunter getting a head on the initial boot to force AFA's Kylie Mcelroy to pick up the stop.
Â
Air Force's Hannah Johnson recorded the go-ahead goal in the 24
th minute off the PK awarded following an NAU foul inside the box, just moments after Corcoran stopped a free kick from a handball call.
Â
NAU suffered three offsides calls in the first half, putting two shots on goal from midfielders
Holly Hunter and
Joey Lujan while
Trinity Corcoran stopped six shots for the Jacks.
Â
Heading into halftime, the match immediately entered a weather delay for lightning, causing an hour delay to the start of the second half.
Micala Boex put up four second-half shots as the Lumberjacks continued to push for the equalizer.
Avery Ott would closely follow with three shots.
Â
Following six first-half saves, Corcoran remained untested in the second frame of play, as she finished the match with six saves and 90 minutes on the pitch. The Lumberjacks outshot the Falcons 18-14 while AFA grabbed the shots on goal advantage at 7-5. Both teams took six corner kicks, and the Jacks received 7 fouls in comparison to Air Force's six.
