Lumberjacks Fly Past Eagles in Three Sets

CHENEY, Wash. (October 16, 2025) - The Northern Arizona women's volleyball team earned a straight-sets victory over Eastern Washington on Thursday night inside Reese Court, 25-14, 25-19, 28-26.

NAU (15-5, 5-2 Big Sky) came out strong in the opening set, pulling ahead 17-11 after an 8-1 run that included kills by Hanah Stoddard, Avery Gottschalk, and Kylie Moran. The Lumberjacks closed on an 8-2 stretch, capped by a kill from Gigi Greenlee, to take the first set 25-14.

The second set saw a close exchange of points early before NAU surged ahead with a 9-2 run to go up 14-8. The Eagles continued to battle, but the Lumberjacks maintained control. A 4-1 run closed out the set 25-19, with Northern Arizona hitting .276 in the frame.

The third set proved to be the tightest of the night, featuring 12 ties and five lead changes. After falling behind 6-1, NAU rallied behind kills from Stoddard and Sophia Wadsworth, an ace by Gottschalk, and a block from Greenlee to pull even midway through the set. Eastern Washington went up 22-20 on a 3-0 run before NAU answered with four straight points to reach set point at 24-22. After the Eagles tied it again at 26-26, Stoddard and Greenlee secured the final two points to seal the sweep.

Stoddard led NAU with 16 kills on a .289 hitting percentage along with 13 digs. Moran followed with 11 kills and 12 digs, while Gottschalk added four service aces and six kills. Greenlee also finished with six kills. Setter Keira Hall dished out 23 assists and added two aces, and libero Melia Barlow posted a team-high 17 digs.

The Lumberjacks will face Idaho on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 12 p.m. MST, with coverage available on ESPN+.
