MISSOULA, Mont. (November 7, 2025) – The No. 6 Northern Arizona women's soccer team struck first, but No. 2 Weber State scored two unanswered goals in the second half as the Lumberjacks fell, 2-1, on Friday afternoon in the Semifinals of the Big Sky Championships.
"Not the ending we were hoping for, but this team has shown incredible fight and resilience all season long. I'm so proud of how they responded through every high and low — they never quit." said head coach
Alan Berrios. "A special thank you to our outstanding senior group as well. From day one, they've exemplified what it takes to be successful. They've been true team players and servant leaders, always putting the team first. I'm heartbroken for them, but also so grateful for the example they've set. This remarkable group of young women will leave behind big shoes to fill — they're truly irreplaceable."
Micala Boex provided the goal for NAU (6-6-7, 2-3-3 Big Sky), with
Avery Ott providing the assist for her third straight game recording at least one point. Ott also took two shots to lead the NAU attack.
Lexi Saveski made her fourth start in goal, playing all 90 minutes and making five saves.
Presley Ray and Brynlee Meyerhoffer scored the Wildcats' (12-6-1, 5-2-1 Big Sky) goals as Ray led the Weber State attack with five shots. The Wildcats outshot NAU, 17-6 and held a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
NAU started aggressively, with Boex's goal arriving in the eighth minute off a great counterattack and transition for the first shot of the match. Saveski then made a trio of saves as NAU held the slim lead. Neither team tested the keepers for the rest of the first half as the Lumberjacks took a 1-0 lead into the break.
Weber State equalized in the 57th minute as the Wildcats capitalized on an NAU turnover. With the score reset, Weber State was then able to take the lead in the 69th minute as it drove possession into its box and pressured the NAU backline. Saveski made another pair of saves to keep the 'Jacks close, but NAU was unable to get a shot off before time expired.
With her goal today, Boex also pushed her points total for the season to 22, becoming the first Lumberjack since Madison Montgomery in 2021 to record over 20 points in a season.
Avery Ott also finishes tied for eighth in all-time goals in an NAU career.
