DENVER, Colo. (February 1, 2025) – The NAU Men's Tennis team grabbed a 5-2 victory over the Cal Poly Mustangs to move their record to 3-0 on the season. This was the first-ever matchup between these two programs.
NAU got the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions, while No. 2 was finished. At No. 1,
Dani Torres and
Jakub Prachar notched a 6-2 win.
Takumi Katsuda and
Ivan Perisic got a 6-3 win at the No. 3 spot, confirming that the Lumberjacks would win the doubles point.
In Singles, No. 3 player
Piotr Galus was the first to finish his match getting a straight sets win. The scoreline of Galus' match was 6-4, 6-3.
Torres pulled out a win to put the Lumberjacks up 3-0 on the scoreboard. Torres won by the score of 6(3)-7, 6-2, 6-2. The win moved Torres' record in singles to 3-0 on the season.
Katsuda clinched the match for the Lumberjacks for the second time this season. Katsuda won his match in three sets, including putting up a breadstick in the third set, 6-4, 7-5, 6-1. He is now 3-0 in singles this season as well.
The final Lumberjack to pull out a win was No. 4 player,
Semen Agynskyy. Agynskyy won his match in three sets with the third set going into a tiebreak. The score of his match was 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(5).
NAU dropped two matches with them both going the distance, Prachar lost his match, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Mati Lange lost an extremely close match with the first and third sets going into tiebreaks, losing by the score of 7-6(5), 3-6, 7-6(5).
