Lumberjacks Open Up Big Sky Play with a 5-2 Victory over Portland State

PORTLAND, Ore. (March 1, 2025) – The NAU Men's Tennis team started Big Sky play with a 5-2 win against the Portland State Vikings. The win makes it the fifth year in a row that the Lumberjacks get a win in their Big Sky opener.
 
NAU took the doubles point by winning two out of the three doubles matches. Dani Torres and Takumi Katsuda won at the No. 2 spot with a 6-2 victory. Then, Lumberjack's No. 3 doubles team of Pitor Galus and Semen Agynskyy clinched the doubles point after a 6-4 win.
 
In the doubles portion of the match, the Lumberjacks won four of the six singles matches. The four players that got singles wins were Jakub Prachar, Jakub Volesky, Galus and Agynskyy. 
 
Prachar won his match at the No. 2 position when he beat Edoardo Cravanzola in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. The win for Prachar moves his singles record to 7-3 on the season. 
 
Volesky got a straight set win at the No. 4 spot in the lineup. Volesky won the first set by a break then breadsticked his opponent in the second to win by the scoreline of 6-4, 6-1. This was Volesky's third win as a Lumberjack, with the freshman moving his record to 3-1 in singles. 
 
Galus had also won in straight sets, beating Hubert Theriault, 6-3, 6-4. Galus improves on his record at the No. 3 position by staying undefeated with a record of 3-0. 
 
Agynskyy got a straight set win by the score of 6-1, 6-4. Agynskyy now has a winning record in singles at 4-3. 
 
The Lumberjacks now move their overall record to 6-4 with a 1-0 record in the Big Sky Conference. The next matches for NAU will be played on March 6 and 7 when they head down south to Tucson to take on both the St. John's Red Storm and the Arizona Wildcats.
