LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 21, 2025) - The Northern Arizona University volleyball team was honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for their academic success with the AVCA Team Academic Award, sponsored by INTENT.
This is the 13th time in program history that NAU has garnered the award, and the sixth in the last seven years. After initially earning the award in 1993, 2004 and four years straight from 2009-12, the Lumberjack volleyball program has received recognition every year since 2018 with the exception of 2020. The award dates back to the 1992-93 academic year.
Collegiate and high school volleyball teams that maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative GPA on a 5.0 scale are honored with the Team Academic Award.
The 'Jacks were among 1,450 teams to be honored and strung together two admirable semesters in the classroom with a 3.45 GPA during the Fall semester and a 3.71 GPA in the Spring.
"It is very exciting to see that the record-setting, on-court successes during the 2024-25 season have extended to the classroom," says AVCA CEO Jaime Gordon. "The fact that more programs earned the Team Academic Award than ever before is evidence of how committed our coaches are when it comes to helping their players reach their goals as both students and athletes."
The Team Academic Award caps an outstanding academic year for the team, led by head coach Ken Murphy. A total of 15 student-athletes were honored with the Golden Eagle Scholar-Athlete Award, and 11 of them received All-Academic honors from the Big Sky Conference.
NAU volleyball is set to open its season on August 29 in Albuquerque. Season tickets for the 2025 campaign can be purchased here, with the 'Jacks slated to host the annual Lumberjack Classic from Sept. 11-13.
