ST. GEORGE, Utah (September 14th, 2025) – After falling behind 2-0 early in the second half, Northern Arizona women's soccer rallied to force a 2-2 draw with future Big Sky member Utah Tech (3-3-2) on Sunday afternoon.
Micala Boex recorded her fifth multi-point contest of the season as she once again led the Lumberjack (3-1-4) offense with one goal and one assist.
Valerie Llamas netted the other score for the 'Jacks while also providing an assist on Boex's goal. Kristin Puels provided an assist on Llamas' goal for her second helper in as many games.
Reece Reichwald made her seventh start between the posts and played all ninety minutes, making six saves. NAU held a 19-15 edge in shots but only drew two corner kicks to UTU's six.
Both sides saw several opportunities in the opening minutes, with the Trailblazers taking a shot in the eighth minute that hit the crossbar. NAU got three shots off in the following ten minutes that went just high and were saved by the UTU keeper.
The 'Jacks were using a total team effort several moments, including in the 35th minute when NAU cleared a shot after Reichwald was displaced during a transition opportunity. The Trailblazers continued to pressure before the half closed, netting their first score in the 43rd minute to take a 1-0 lead into the break.
Utah Tech would extend its lead early in the second stanza, off a one-on-one opportunity in the 49th minute got past the 'Jacks defensive line. NAU would respond quickly though, as Llamas netted her score in the 51st minute.
With the deficit cut in half, the 'Jacks search for an equalizer, with
Avery Ott and Llamas taking shots in the 61st minute. After several mistimed passes in transition, Boex finally received a pass from Llamas in stride, allowing her to beat the backline and Trailblazer goalie to net the equalizer in the 62nd minute.
Both sides had several chances to net a game-winner in the final 28 minutes, with the Lumberjacks finding their best chance on a
Kaylee Muniz shot in the 87th minute that bounced off the crossbar. On the other end, Utah Tech saw their opportunities in the form of three corners in the final ten minutes that the NAU defense was able to clear.
With today's result, NAU improves its record to an unbeaten 2-0-4 in contests away from Flagstaff.
Micala Boex has also scored a goal in five out of eight contests this season. The Lumberjacks also extend their unbeaten streak to six games.
The Lumberjacks return to Flagstaff on Thursday, Sep. 18 when they welcome Grand Canyon to Lumberjack Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
