SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Sept. 19, 2025) -Â The Northern Arizona women's volleyball team extended its winning streak to eight with a victory over Gardner-Webb.
Competing in the Wofford Invitational, the Lumberjacks completed their eighth straight set sweep of the season, winning 25-16, 25-23, 25-18. NAU moves to 10-2, 0-0 (Big Sky), while GWU falls to 6-6, 0-0 (Big South).
Northern Arizona overcame an early deficit in the opening set. After trailing 4-1, the 'Jacks evened the score at 10-10 before breaking the set open with a decisive 6-0 run. Gigi Greenlee and Hanah Stoddard each finished with five kills, hitting .625 and .556, respectively. NAU closed the set on a four-point run, securing a 25-16 win and a 1-0 advantage in the match.
The Lumberjacks carried their momentum into the second set, battling through a back-and-forth frame before pulling away late. Stoddard notched five kills on a .385 hitting percentage, while Greenlee and Sophia Wadsworth contributed key blocks at the net. As a team, NAU hit .256 and sided out at 65 percent. With the score tied at 23-23, Greenlee delivered a kill, and Kylie Moran sealed the set with a service ace to claim the 25-23 win.
NAU dominated the third set, surging to a 14-6 lead with a .212 hitting percentage and three team blocks. The Lumberjacks held Gardner-Webb to a .075 clip, controlling the pace and converting 68 percent of sideouts. A 4-2 scoring run late in the set, including kills from Wadsworth and Stoddard, finished the frame at 25-18, completing the sweep.
Stoddard led the team with a double-double, recording 13 kills and 11 digs. Greenlee added nine kills and six blocks, while Laney Wilson contributed seven kills. Keira Hall led with 16 assists, and Melia Barlow anchored the back row with 12 digs and two aces. Ella Hosfeld added 11 assists and two aces, while Avery Gottschalk and Wadsworth combined for five key blocks.
