Lumberjack Soccer Set to Open Big Sky Play with Grizzlies

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (September 23, 2025) – The Northern Arizona women's soccer team opens Big Sky Conference play this week with preseason-favorite Montana and Sacramento State.

The Lumberjacks host Montana on Thursday at 8 p.m. Mountain Standard Time before traveling to California to face Sacramento State on Sunday at 1 p.m. MST. Both matches will stream live on ESPN+. Admission to Thursday's match at Lumberjack Stadium is free for all fans.

Northern Arizona enters conference play with a 3-2-4 non-conference record, highlighted by a 4-2 win over Hawaii. The Lumberjacks also blanked returning Big Sky member Southern Utah, 2-0, and played Utah Tech to a 2-2 draw.

The Lumberjacks' attack has proven to be a consistent strength. Micala Boex led the way with five goals, four assists, and 38 shots during non-conference action. Avery Ott added three goals, all in the win over Hawaii, and 31 shots.

The last time Northern Arizona and Montana met was in 2024, where the Griz earned a 2-1 victory in Missoula. The Lumberjacks trail in the all-time series against Montana, 5-8-4.

The Griz closed non-conference play with a 6-2-1 record and comes to Flagstaff riding a five-game winning streak. Senior midfielder Chloe Seelholff has tallied six goals in nine matches, along with three assists and 31 shots, making her a key weapon for Montana's offense.

The 'Jacks then hit the road to face Sacramento State, a series Northern Arizona leads 8-5-7 all-time. The teams met twice last season, battling to a 1-1 draw in conference play before Sacramento State advanced past NAU in the first round of the Big Sky Championship on penalty kicks.

Sacramento State midfielder Tea Reyes leads the Hornets with two goals this season, adding one assist and 20 shots. Close behind is Lexi Schroeder, who has recorded one goal, one assist, and 16 shots. The Hornets open league play against Northern Colorado on Thursday in Greeley.

Following this week's action, Northern Arizona returns home to host Northern Colorado on Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. MST at Lumberjack Stadium.
