Lumberjacks Ready to Dig Deep as Conference Play Begins

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (Sept. 23, 2025) - The Northern Arizona women's volleyball team heads into Big Sky play this week after a strong run in its non-conference slate. The Lumberjacks are currently 10-3 on the season, leading the Big Sky standings by two games. This run is highlighted by a 3-0 sweep over Big 12 opponent Texas Tech and a victory over Grand Canyon on its home court.

R-Jr. Hanah Stoddard has proven herself a standout since being selected to the preseason all-conference team. Her 4.47 kills per set currently ranks 24th in the nation. Her 543 total attacks are ninth in DI volleyball, and the gap between her and second-place Ashlynn Archer of Sacramento State is larger than Archer's total for the year (241).

On Sept. 25, NAU will host Idaho at the Rolle Activity Center at 6:00 p.m. Mountain Standard time. The Vandals are coming off a road weekend in Nashville at the Tiger Invitational, where they collected their third win of the year under head coach Romana Redondo Kriskova - their first five-set victory in four years. In that match, freshman Kiana Greer and junior Cayton White became the first pair of Idaho players to record 20+ kills in the same match.

Looking back at last season, the Lumberjacks swept Idaho in straight sets during their meeting on Oct. 24, with identical scores of 25-19 in each set. The teams met again in NAU's season finale on Nov. 23, where the 'Jacks swept 25-11, 25-9, 25-13. NAU leads the all-time series 26-13, dating back to 1987.

The match will be streamed on ESPN+ with live stats available here.

On Sept. 27 at 5:00 p.m. MST, Northern Arizona will play at Idaho State.

The Bengals have established themselves as one of the nation's premier blocking teams, ranking 15th in the NCAA in blocks per set and 4th in total blocks. Individually, Marci Bell is 23rd nationally in blocks per set and tied for 6th in total blocks, while Jaydin Watts ranks 33rd in hitting percentage and tied for 55th in total blocks. Freshman setter Nora Waddoups has also emerged as one of the country's top rookies, standing 24th among NCAA freshmen in assists.

Last season, the Lumberjacks took a 3-2 win against the Bengals on the road on Nov. 16. They met again in the first round of the Big Sky Conference Championship, where the 'Jacks fell 1-3. In the all-time series, NAU leads 44-41 since 1979.

This match will also be streamed on ESPN+ with live stats available here.
