SACRAMENTO, Calif. (September 28, 2025) – The Northern Arizona women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw on the road at Sacramento State on Sunday afternoon to stay unbeaten in Big Sky Conference action.
NAU (4-2-5, 1-0-1 Big Sky) was paced by
Micala Boex, who took five shots and provided the lone goal off a penalty kick in the second half.
Avery Ott took three shots alongside her, while
Olivia Bos took two. Sacramento State (5-6-1, 1-0-1 Big Sky) held a slim 16-14 advantage in shots, but only drew three corner kicks to NAU's five.
Reece Reichwald made her 11th start between the posts and made seven saves in just over 84 minutes, with Lexi Savesky finishing the last six for NAU.
Sacramento State began aggressively, taking the first six shots of the match before the Lumberjacks took six unanswered shots themselves. Reichwald made an early save in the fifth minute on a header, and another in the sixth minute as NAU faired early attacks from the Hornets.
Boex got the 'Jacks first shot on goal in the 11th minute, trying to capitalize off an intercepted pass in the midfield by
Katie Willoughby. Ott got a shot off in the 14th minute that went just wide to the right, followed by another shot from Boex that was saved by the keeper. Both sides found several opportunities in the first 45, but went into halftime with a 0-0 score.
Reichwald stopped another header to open the second half, as NAU looked to break the tie. Boex's penalty kicked arrived in the 54th minute after she got taken down the box, and the junior managed to put it past the keeper for the first strike of the match.
With the advantage, NAU kept its foot on the gas while also staying poised defensively. The 'Jacks kept the Hornets shots off target or saved into the 82nd minute, until Sacramento State punctured the box off a throw-in and managed to sneak it into the net to even the score.
Both sides scrambled to find a game-winner in the last nine minutes but neither could get any shot attempts off as time ran out, resulting in the draw.
Northern Arizona ties Sacramento State for the third straight meeting, as the two squads battled to a 2-2 draw in the Big Sky Tournament and 1-1 contest in the regular season meeting in 2024. The draw also keeps the Lumberjacks unbeaten in contests away from Flagstaff at 2-0-5.
NAU will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 5 when it welcomes Northern Colorado to Lumberjack Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
