IRVINE, Calif. (Sep. 7, 2025) – The Northern Arizona women's soccer team shut out UC Irvine in a 0-0 draw on Sunday afternoon.
Avery Ott paced the 'Jacks (2-1-3) offense with six shots, followed by
Micala Boex with four and
Kristen Puels with one. Mirayah Villalpando provided two shots to lead UC Irvine (2-1-4).
Reece Reichwald made her fifth start in goal and played all ninety minutes, making three saves for her second career shutout. The 'Jacks forced six saves from the UCI goalie as they held a slim 11-9 advantage in shots.
Both sides struggled to get into a rhythm in the opening ten minutes, until Ott asked the first question of the match that was answered by the Anteater goalie in the 14th minute. The senior tested the goalie again in the 25th minute as the score stayed blank. The Anteaters got their first shot on goal in the 30th minute that was stopped by Reichwald, and each team would test the goalie once more before taking a 0-0 score into halftime.
NAU began the second stanza aggressively, taking a flurry of shots surrounding a corner opportunity in the 57th minute. The defense held strong as well, as the Anteaters created a trio of corners in the 68th 73rd, and 75th minutes that they couldn't convert on. UC Irvine got one more shot on goal in the 78th minute while the 'Jacks offense searched for an advantage in the last ten minutes. Two corner opportunities led to shots on goal from Boex and Puels, but were both saved as time ran out to force 'Jacks second straight draw.
NAU will play the first of a pair of road matches in Utah as it takes on Southern Utah on Friday, Sep. 12. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. MST and can be streamed on ESPN+.
