OGDEN, Utah (October 3, 2026) - Rebounding from a loss on Thursday, the Northern Arizona women's volleyball team swept Weber State on Saturday, taking down the Wildcats in three straight sets, 25-21, 25-21, 25-21.
The Lumberjacks were led offensively by Hanah Stoddard and Quincey Coyle, who each recorded 16 kills, while Gigi Greenlee added seven. Stoddard, Coyle and Avery Gottschalk each contributed one service ace, while Gottschalk and Greenlee paced the block with three apiece, followed by Masina Perez with two. Ella Hosfeld and Taryn Davis shared the team lead in assists with 18 each, while Kate Federico added six. Federico also anchored the defense with a team-high 18 digs, while Stoddard and Hosfeld contributed nine and eight, respectively.
The opening set featured a back-and-forth battle, with the score tied nine times before reaching 14-14. From there, Northern Arizona took control with a 6-0 run, highlighted by kills from Stoddard, Greenlee and Coyle and a service ace from Gottschalk to push the Lumberjacks ahead 20-14. Weber State answered with a late push, but NAU maintained its lead to close out the set, 25-21, on a final Davis setter dump. The 'Jacks hit an efficient .341 in the first set.
Northern Arizona came out strong in the second set, opening with a 4-0 run behind a kill from Perez, a service ace from Federico and a block from Gottschalk and Perez. Weber State answered with a 4-0 run to even the score at 5-5, setting up another back-and-forth battle. NAU maintained its composure and built a 20-15 advantage behind kills from Coyle and a block from Perez and Greenlee. Weber State battled back to cut the deficit to 22-20, but NAU closed the set with a kill from Stoddard, a service ace from Davis and a final kill from Laney Wilson to secure the second frame, 25-21.
NAU came out firing in the final set, jumping to a 7-1 lead behind kills from Stoddard and Perez, a block from Gottschalk and a service ace from Coyle. The Wildcats responded with a 6-1 run to pull within 8-7, but the Lumberjacks quickly regained control. NAU then erupted for an 8-1 run, highlighted by four kills from Coyle and another from Gottschalk, to extend its lead to 16-8. WSU battled back late with a 10-3 run, cutting the deficit to 19-18, but NAU answered with key kills from Stoddard, Coyle and Gottschalk to maintain its advantage. The Lumberjacks closed out the set, 25-21, with a block from Wilson and Greenlee to secure the match.
The 'Jacks improve to 9-7, 2-2, while the 'Cats move to 9-5, 2-2.
Northern Arizona will host Montana State on Oct. 8 at 6 p.m. and Montana on Oct. 10 at 11 a.m.
