NAU Set to Open Big Sky Competition Hosting Eastern Washington and Idaho

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (October 6, 2026) – The Northern Arizona soccer team will begin Big Sky Conference play by welcoming Eastern Washington and Idaho to Flagstaff this week.

The Lumberjacks will kickoff against the Eagles on Thursday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. MST and the Vandals on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 1 p.m. MST. Both contests will be streamed on ESPN+.

NAU carries a 4-4-2 record and three-match unbeaten streak into the week. The 'Jacks hit pause on game action following a 2-0 win at New Mexico State over two weeks ago on Sept. 20, and are eager to get back to the pitch against conference foes.

Micala Boex leads the attack with five goals on the season and moved into sole place of eighth in program history for all-time career goals (16) against NMSU. She ranks first in the conference in goals, shots per game (4.2), and shots on goal per game (2.2). Lexi Saveski has spent the most minutes in goal for NAU, and owns a .844 save percentage and 0.82 GAA, both ranking second in the conference.

Eastern Washington brings a 6-3-2 record into the contest, including a 0-1-1 record in Big Sky matches so far. The Eagles began the season 5-0 but have since managed just one victory in their last six outings. Mia Miconi and Deanna Montero have both tallied a trio of goals on the season, while Reese Kincaid has provided a team-leading two assists. Payton Hyde has spent all 990 minutes of the season between the posts and has made 62 saves for a league-leading .849 save percentage. The Eagles and Lumberjacks met in last year's Big Sky Championships, as NAU avenged a regular season defeat and eliminated EWU with a 2-1 win to advance to the semifinals. The Lumberjacks lead the all-time series, 18-10-2, and are 9-3-1 at home against the Eagles, who have gone unbeaten on the road this season (2-0-1).

Idaho stands at 7-2-3 entering the week and will visit Northern Colorado on Thursday to play the Bears before heading to Flagstaff. The Vandals are 1-0-1 in Big Sky matches, as they drew Weber State 1-1 and handled Idaho State 3-0 last week. Hallie Prinos-Grumbach has tallied three goals to lead the offense, while Miranda Goldner has registered a team-leading three assists on the year. Paula Flores has spent all but 23 minutes in goal this season, owning six shutouts to lead the Big Sky. The 'Jacks snapped a three-game skid against Idaho last season with a 3-0 win on Oct. 26.
